Car Insurance
A car is usually the second-biggest thing most households own. We help you choose between third party, third party fire and theft, and comprehensive cover, arranged through Aon Insurance Brokers, and make sure the sum insured actually matches what the car is worth.
How the cover actually works.
Comprehensive cover for accidental damage, fire, theft and third-party liability
Agreed value or market value settlement, chosen when the policy is arranged
Third party, and third party fire and theft options for older or lower-value vehicles
Optional extras like windscreen cover, roadside assistance and a hire car after a claim
This page is for you if…
Anyone financing a car through a loan or lease with a payout requirement
Households with more than one vehicle needing cover arranged together
Owners of a newer or higher-value car, where an agreed value protects against under-insurance
Anyone who hasn't reviewed their car cover, excess or sum insured in a while
Two ways to get car insurance sorted.
Going it alone
You compare policy wording and exclusions yourself, insurer by insurer.
No one flags it when your circumstances change and your cover no longer fits.
If a claim is ever declined, you deal with the insurer directly.
The cheapest premium today isn't checked against what it actually covers.
With a Smiths adviser
We compare car insurance across the providers we work with, in plain English.
We review your cover again as your circumstances change, not just once at the start.
If you ever need to claim, we deal with the insurer on your behalf.
You get one recommendation based on your situation, not a single insurer's product.
Talk to an adviser about this.

A clear written recommendation in plain English
Implementation paperwork handled by us, not you
Why this is easier with an adviser.
Arrange your cover through Aon Insurance Brokers rather than you dealing with an insurer directly
Check the sum insured or agreed value is realistic before you need to make a claim, not after
Compare excess levels against the premium so you're not carrying more risk than you intended
Support you through the claims process if you're ever in an accident

Common questions about car insurance.
Third party covers damage you cause to someone else's car or property. Comprehensive also covers your own car for accidental damage, fire and theft. Which one makes sense depends on the age and value of your car.
Agreed value is a payout figure set when the policy starts, so you know exactly what you'll receive if the car is written off. Market value cover instead pays what the car was worth at the time of the claim, which can move around.
Most finance agreements require comprehensive cover for as long as the loan runs, so the lender's interest is protected as well as yours.
Yes, multiple vehicles can usually be arranged together, which is often simpler to manage than separate policies.
